Dr Carlene Firmin MBE

Dr Carlene Firmin, MBE is a Principal Research Fellow for The International Centre: Researching Child Sexual Exploitation, Violence and Trafficking for the University of Bedfordshire.

Carlene is a social researcher, concerned with safeguarding young people, social justice and inequality, with a particular expertise in the field of violence and abuse between young people.

Since 2013 I have developed and led the Contextual Safeguarding and peer-on-peer abuse research programmes at the University of Bedfordshire.

Firmin was awarded an MBE in the 2011 New Year Honours for “services to girls’ and women’s issues” and was the youngest black woman to have received this honour.
